Bree Buchanan, JD, MSF, of Krill Strategies, LLC, will share important insights into the importance of building resilience to effectively deal with the ongoing challenges of our highly stressful profession. Bree will share current trends and research of the well-being in law movement that is taking hold in the practice of law. She will discuss science-based strategies that promote an enhanced ability to tolerate – and bounce back from – the effects of stress, uncertainty, adversity, and setbacks. She will also discuss the ethical implications of maintaining – or failing to maintain – one’s health and well-being, including how it affects one's duty of competence.

Social Inflation and Nuclear Verdicts: Practical Tips and Sound Strategies from Lawyers and Clients (CLE Session)

The DRI Center for Law and Public Policy recently published a white paper discussing some of the root causes of this phenomenon and providing suggestions for how nuclear verdicts and the larger issue of social inflation can be combatted, both in and outside of the courtroom. This panel will discuss an overview of the factors which influence these issues and offer up-to-date strategies and tips to help create and maintain a level playing field in the courtroom. Attendees will leave with a tool kit of practical ideas to help their clients, buttressed with knowledge of national trends, able to return to their practices with an appreciation for what’s coming next.

An ombudsperson can help foster a culture of collaboration and provide strategies for navigating disputes. Insurance in 2030: The Future of Claims and Impact of Emerging Tech

While the insurance industry is normally a late comer to most technology, this has not been the case with recent advancements. This session will help attendees to understand the cutting-edge tools now available to the insurance industry, and the ways insurance carriers are adapting to technology and preparing for the future of property and casualty claims investigation and handling. This program will discuss recent advancements, such as:

  • The cutting-edge tools available to defense counsel and investigators to document product and scene inspections;
  • The latest in vehicle electronic data and technology, including black boxes, infotainment systems, and vehicle camera acquisitions. We will also explore the future of auto claims with autonomous vehicles, including future trends, current cases involving this technology, and other considerations such as cyber and ethical;
  • The use of digital forensics to obtain relevant data for claims involving wearable technology on construction sites and other locations.
