Michael Arnett, MS, PEwith S-E-A earned both his Bachelor of Science degree and Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engingering from Ohio State University. He came to S-E-A from the automotive industry where he worked for a major automobile manufacturer designing and implementing powertrain control algorithms for production of conventional, hybrid, and electric vehicles. Mike's responsibilities at S-E-A include investigations and analysis relating to vehicle accident reconstruction involving passenger vehicles, commercial trucks, and motorcycles. His responsibilities also include causation analysis relating to product failures.


Jason Baker

Jason Baker, President and CEO S-E-A, earned his BS degree from the University of Pennsylvania and his MBA from the Fisher College of Business at Ohio State University. Since 1996 when Jason began his career at S-E-A, he has held a range of positions that have imparted on him a well-rounded perspective of the forensic engineering industry. These positions included evidence technician, business development, manager of S-E-A's Chicago and Charlotte offices, and Vice President of Marketing and Corporate Services. He was intimately involved in the repurchase of S-E-A from a large, publicly traded company and has held a position on the Company's board since 2003. During Jason's tenure as CEO, S-E-A has expanded its footprint domestically by opening new offices while advancing the Company's presence internationally. He also led the construction of the new 100,000 square foot campus and testing facility recently opened in Columbus, Ohio.


Bard D. Borkon

Bard D. Borkon is a first-chair trial attorney with extensive experience in defense of high-exposure catastrophic injury product liability litigation. He has tried cases for the world's largest automobile manufacturers in Arizona, California, Minnesota, Nevada, South Carolina, Texas and Wisconsin, and has participated in trials in six additional states. He has also argued before the Missouri Supreme Court on behalf of a major automobile client. With a unique focus in automotive litigation, Bard serves as lead counsel managing national litigation programs and coordinating discovery. He defends a wide range of industry issues including rollovers, seat belts, airbags, unintended acceleration, electronic stability control and other complex emerging technologies. The majority of his cases require a deep dive into technical issues involving injury mechanism, accident reconstruction and statistical analysis. Bard also has represented automotive clients in class actions involving product-based allegations. In addition, Bard's product liability experience includes defending corporate clients nationwide in personal injury litigation involving a wide variety of other products, including computer keyboards, construction equipment, wood finishing materials, farm machinery, power tools and bicycles.

Jeffrey D. (Jeff) Colwell PhD, PE is a Principal Engineer at Colwell Consulting LLC where he specializes in the engineering analysis of thermal and combustion processes, especially the cause, origin, and propagation of fires and explosions. Dr. Colwell has investigated fires and explosions in a wide array of applications including motor vehicles, residential and commercial structures, wildfires, and industrial complexes associated with the chemical, drilling, refining, and mining industries. Technical issues addressed have included cause and origin determination, burn pattern interpretation, evaluation of ignition mechanisms, smoldering and self-heating, fire spread, smoke transport, smoke detector operation, building evacuation, fire department response, carbon monoxide poisoning and handling of hazardous waste.


Cynthia M. Day, MD

Cynthia M. Day, MD, Biodynamic Research Corporation, has a degree in Medicine, is Board Certified in Diagnostic Radiology, and completed a fellowship in Emergency Radiology at Harvard University in Boston, Massachusetts. She has over 15 years of clinical experience and maintains her clinical practice at University Hospital in San Antonio, the Level-I trauma center for south Texas, and at the Audie L. Murphy VA Hospital in San Antonio. She also holds a faculty position as Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Texas Medical School at San Antonio. She joined BRC in September 2013, where she specializes in the forensic evaluation of imaging studies for the purposes of determining mechanism of injury.

Alan L. DeGraw is Senior Counsel with FCA US LLC (formerly Chrysler Group LLC), where his main area of responsibility is vehicle safety and regulatory compliance. A graduate of Michigan State University and DePaul University College of Law, Alan has been in-house counsel, with three Fortune 500 companies, for more than 20 of his 28 years in practice. Alan has private practice law firm experience, and was regional counsel for one of the United States' largest integrated steel manufacturers prior to entering the automotive industry. An established speaker, Alan has given hundreds of presentations to internal client groups, trade associations and conferences.


Erinn D. DePorre

Erinn D. DePorre is Lead Counsel, Autonomous and Transportation Services ("ATS"), for General Motors LLC. DePorre has extensive experience managing complex litigation and advising senior management on various matters, including complex litigation, NHTSA compliance, FTC and FCC compliance, international regulatory compliance, privacy and cybersecurity, connected vehicles, autonomous vehicles and government affairs. Prior to joining General Motors LLC, DePorre was senior staff counsel in the Office of the General Counsel for another Tier I automotive manufacturer.

Licensed in Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia and Tennessee, Denise serves as trial counsel representing several manufacturers of automobiles and heavy trucks in products liability cases, as well as warranty claims. Other product manufacturers Denise has represented throughout her career include the makers of athletic training equipment, machine tools, pleasure boats, railroad cars and household appliances. Denise has served as national coordinating counsel in multidistrict litigation, participating in, coordinating and supervising trial preparation of over 200 matters. In addition to her participation in DRI, she is also a member of the Product Liability Advisory Council.


Carmen Dorris

Carmen Dorris is a member of FCA's in-house legal team. Carmen is in the Product Liability and Commercial Litigation practice group and is primarily responsible for defending FCA in product liability lawsuits, representing FCA in supplier cost-recovery actions and advising FCA's business teams on a variety of "day to day" legal issues. Carmen previously practiced at the National Law Firm, Dickinson Wright PLLC, and practiced primarily in the areas of commercial and employment defense litigation. Carmen graduated from Kalamazoo College with a degree in Political Science and attended Law School at Michigan State University. Outside of work, Carmen enjoys outdoor activities, fitness, scrapbooking and coaches a high school basketball team.


Zachary (Zach) Dunlap

Zachary (Zach) Dunlap serves as Counsel for Ford Motor Company, where he advises globally on automotive safety, emissions, and regulatory issues, including cybersecurity and other related technologies. He has extensive experience handling regulatory matters with NHTSA and other governmental entities. Prior to joining Ford in March 2018, Zach served as Senior Counsel at the Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI) where he advised on safety compliance and emissions regulations, with a focus on future autonomous vehicle regulations. Zach previously served as a Senior Trial Attorney at NHTSA, where he worked closely with NHTSA's Office of Defect Investigations, Office of Vehicle Safety Compliance, and Rulemaking offices. He started his legal career working as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Ohio. Zach's appreciation of automotive and mechanical issues stems from his formative years growing up on a farm in southern Ohio. He earned his juris doctor degree from the Moritz College of Law at Ohio State University, and a bachelor's degree in history from Ohio Wesleyan University.

Kristi graduated from Stanford University and received her J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law.

Heather Russell Fine with Marshall Dennehey is an experienced trial attorney focusing her practice on complex product liability and mass tort defense matters, in particular in the representation of automotive manufacturers, regional product manufacturers, foodservice retailers and retail corporations. Through her national practice, Heather manages all aspects of complex product liability cases from inception through to verdict and appeal. She helps clients develop strategies for suits and claims filed against them, guiding them through litigation to resolution — whether that resolution is an amicable settlement or trial. She regularly provides counseling and training sessions for automotive clients and their employees regarding both litigation and pre-litigation issues. Heather also handles a wide variety of premises and personal liability cases, employment matters and Title IX investigations. Heather graduated from Clark University where she was a member of the NCAA Division III varsity soccer team for four years. She received her juris doctor from the University of Maine School of Law.

She has extensive experience handling regulatory matters with NHTSA and other governmental entities, product defect investigations, and complex product litigation cases. She also is a lecturer at the University of Michigan Law School on the legal issues involved with autonomous vehicles, and she is co-chair of the Legal and Insurance Working Group of MCity. In 2017, she was appoint-ed by Governor Rick Snyder to the Michigan Council on Future Mobility.

Gary J. Heydinger, PhD, PE, is the director of vehicle dynamics for SEA Ltd. in Columbus, Ohio. Dr. Heydinger was integral in the development of the National Advanced Driving Simulator at the University of Iowa. He also leads the team that created the Vehicle Inertia Measurement Facility at SEA, which is used by NHTSA to determine the five-star rollover ratings of passenger vehicles. Dr. Heydinger's vehicle testing experience and simulation modeling expertise has been a valuable asset in numerous automotive litigation matters involving passenger vehicles, ATVs, golf carts and off-highway recreational vehicles.

Douglas R. Morr, MS, PE, received his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science (specializing in Biomechanics) degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Ohio State University. After gaining automotive engineering experience at an international manufacturer and over five years of research, design, and testing experience as a biomechanical engineer at a measurement device company, Mr. Morr brought his education and experience to S-E-A in 2000. Since arriving at S-E-A, he has performed hundreds of accident investigations and reconstruction analyses, biomechanical analyses relative to injury mechanisms and injury causation, and mechanical engineering analyses of failure events. Mr. Morr also has experience and training in the use of MADYMO, both in research and real-world human kinematic and kinetic analysis; HVE for vehicle accident and kinematic simulation analysis; and engineering support for animation. Capitalizing on his design and testing background, Mr. Morr leads research and case-specific testing programs at S-E-A, utilizing instrumented Anthropometric Test Devices (ATDs), vehicle-to-vehicle crash tests, and human volunteer testing.


Jodi Dyan Oley

Jodi Dyan Oley with Eckert Seamans Cherin & Mellott LLC has a diverse practice in civil litigation, with a particular emphasis on product liability litigation. Jodi's practice includes representation of national automobile, motorcycle and medium/heavy duty truck and tractor manufacturers. She is also experienced in litigation of toxic tort, mass tort, construction and personal injury matters. Jodi is skilled in Federal Employers' Liability Act litigation, as well as other railroad and transportation actions. Nick serves as national lead trial counsel for a major construction and agricultural equipment manufacturer. He represents clients in lawsuits in state and federal courts throughout the United States and has tried cases to successful defense verdicts in Alabama, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, South Dakota and Wisconsin. Nick also advises clients regarding Medicare reporting issues. Nick is also the Chair of the DRI Product Liability Committee, which is DRI's largest substantive law committee and has over 3,300 members.

Dennis J. Paustenbach, PhD, CIH, DABT is a board-certified toxicologist and industrial hygienist with nearly 35 years of experience in risk assessment, environmental engineering, ecotoxicology, and occupational health. He is currently an independent consultant. He was the President of ChemRisk, both before and after the merger with Cardno, which is a consulting firm which specializes in human and ecological risk assessment, as well as and risk analysis of consumer products, contaminated sites, pharmaceuticals and medical devices. He was also for several years a Vice President of Exponent, and prior to that, President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of McLaren-Hart Environmental, a nationwide consulting firm of 600 persons. Dennis specializes in the areas of industrial and environmental toxicology, occupational health, historical state-of-knowledge regarding environmental issues, and ecological and human risk assessment. He has directed the scientific aspects of toxic tort cases. He has also provided expert witness testimony in public meetings and trials concerning the health effects of chemicals in sediments, air, soil, consumer products, groundwater, and the workplace.

Anthony M. Ruffolo is Manager, Legal Affairs & Counsel at Honda Canada. He is responsible for management of the legal team supporting both Honda's sales organization and captive finance business in Canada. Anthony's practice includes management of products' litigation, including class actions, regulatory advice relating to recalls and product campaigns, as well as advertising review. Prior to joining Honda, Anthony was an associate lawyer at a national law firm in Toronto.


Carmine Senatore, PhD

Carmine Senatore, PhD is specializided in the area of vehicle engineering includes advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) vehicle-to-vehicle communications (V2V), automated vehicle technologies, and on-road and off-road vehicle dynamics. Dr. Senatore is an ISO26262 functional safety certified engineer and his experience in accident investigations encompass the reconstruction of crashes involving passenger cars and heavy trucks, event data recorder (EDR) and engine control module (ECM) data analysis, automotive testing and simulations of vehicle crashes using the Human Vehicle Environment (HVE) software package. He has published on the topic of the use of ADAS sensor data to reconstruct vehicle crashes, and has conducted experiments to assist in the development of analysis techniques required to analyze such data. Dr. Senatore obtained his Ph.D. in Engineering Mechanics at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Prior to joining Exponent, Dr. Senatore was a research scientist at MIT, where he collaborated with national agencies, research institutions, and private companies to study how vehicles and robotic systems interact with unstructured environments. In that capacity he developed strategic and tactical tools to support mobility studies for the NASA Mars Science Laboratory (MSL) and Mars Exploration Rover (MER) missions.


Anmol Sidhu, PhD

Anmol Sidhu, PhD Prior to joining S-E-A in 2010, Dr. Sidhu received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Ohio State University. He is the lead systems integration and software engineer at S-E-A, and he has developed computer control algorithms for many of S-E-A's products including their automated test drivers (ATDs), suspension testing equipment, and impact sled. Dr. Sidhu has designed and implemented systems for data collection and data analyses for many of S-E-A's vehicle test programs and for most of the vehicle testing products they design and manufacturer. He designed and implemented the software for S-E-A's suite of ATDs for passenger vehicles, heavy trucks, and off-road vehicles such as ROV's and ATV's. He is actively involved in designing and conducting test programs that require driving vehicles autonomously; including standard vehicle handling tests, vehicle-to-vehicle crash tests, and vehicle rollovers. He also leads S-E-A's algorithm development for conducting ever-increasingly more complex testing scenarios used to evaluate the performance of automated vehicles (AVs); including scenarios with multiple objects such as AVs, ATD equipped vehicles, automated platforms with strikable surrogate vehicles and pedestrians, and traffic signals.


Timothy Charles (Tim) Smith

Timothy Charles (Tim) Smith is Senior Associate General Counsel – Product Safety at Polaris Industries. He joined Polaris in January 2019, and is responsible for providing upper management and development engineers with strategic advice on product safety, product regulatory compliance, and risk management. Tim's work includes optimizing and managing design-stage product development safety programs, global safety messaging and campaigns, emissions compliance, emerging tech deployment, safety policy implementation, safety-related risk assessment and research initiatives, and the enterprise-wide evaluation of all safety-critical processes and systems.

Mr. Weatherholtz is a Past Chair of the South Carolina Bar Construction Law Section. He is also an active member of the DRI (The Voice of the Defense Bar) Product Liability Committee, having served as program chair, chair of the building products specialized litigation group, and currently as Vice Chair of the Committee.
