DRI's Commercial Litigation Committee is DRI's fifth-largest substantive law committee, and one of its most energetic. The Commercial Litigation Committee encompasses everything from business torts to intellectual property to class actions and more.
The biggest events of the year for the Committee are the Business Litigation and Intellectual Property Seminars. These concurrent seminars occur in the spring and are the premier events of the year for business, commercial and IP litigators as well as in-house counsel who are faced with complex business, commercial or IP litigation matters. We have numerous ways for you to get involved in this Committee. We have seven subcommittees and have six specialized litigation groups (SLGs). Our subcommittees include Diversity, Membership, Mentoring, Networking, Program Planning and Marketing, Publications and Webpage/Webcast/Blog. Each of these subcommittees seeks new members, with new ideas and fresh energy to continually increase the value of these groups for our members. Our SLGs include Antitrust/Consumer Protection, Class Actions, Complex Commercial Litigation, Financial Institutions/Creditors Rights, Intellectual Property, and Sports and Entertainment Law. Membership in these subcommittees and SLGs is free with your DRI membership. What makes these groups so wonderful is that the convey valuable, practical and substantive information about cutting edge issues in each practice, they have routine phone conferences and offer lots of ways to get involved and of course they offer the opportunity to market yourself (perhaps as a featured speaker on one of the phone conferences) and network with others from all over the country, too. If you are interested in joining any of these groups, please complete and return the

The Commercial Litigation Committee also has publishing opportunities galore. Our monthly e-newsletter, The Business Suit, regularly disseminates cutting edge articles, substantive law reports, member successes, circuit reports, and lighter moments, designed to educate and showcase our members. Our members generally publish a collection of articles in the February issue of For the Defense, DRI’s flagship magazine. For the Defense reaches over 25,000 members, judges and in-house counsel every month. We are always soliciting new ideas for a Defense Library Series publication. Our last DLS publication was a 50-state compendium of trade secrets and noncompetition law and it was very well received.
The Committee's activities are organized and executed by a steering committee which is led by the Committee Chair, Peter Strand and Committee Vice-Chair Kathy Lang. Our activities cater to a broad spectrum of business lawyers, intellectual property lawyers and their clients. Our commitment to expand the reach of DRI's member services and our efforts to offer opportunities for those who wish to be involved has, we believe, resulted in an energized and growing membership.
This Committee is a collegial, hard-working, and innovative group. Anyone who wants to get involved can become involved. We have many opportunities, whether you wish to write, speak, network, market, build web pages or simply learn. If you are a DRI member, help us advance our goals and join our committee by clicking on the blue " Join A Committee" button. You must be signed on with your username and password to do this.
