DRI Is Committed to Diversity

DRI – The Voice of the Defense Bar has a long-standing commitment to diversity. DRI hosts a successful Diversity Scholarship Program and the Seventh Annual Diversity Seminar. Hundreds of attorney’s attend the annual event, both to secure continuing legal education but also to visit with business connections during the Diversity Expo.
This year’s Diversity for Success Seminar will be held June 7-8 at the Swissôtel Chicago. This two day seminar will feature In-House Speakers from Energy Services, Farmers Insurance, The Hartford, Universal American Corporation and CBS Corporation. Attendees of this year’s Diversity for Success Seminar will engage in national level networking with peers and clients, reexamine the status of women in the legal profession, develop strategies to overcome glass ceilings and will explore ways non-diverse attorneys can advance diversity.
Attendees will have the opportunity to choose one of two tracks, either Diverse Attorneys or Law Firm Management, on Thursday afternoon. Within these two days, attendees will learn how to use the business case for diversity more effectively in the legal profession; innovative ways minority bar associations are helping their members attract business; how to craft an effective request for proposal and how to propose and implement profitable alternative fee agreements; how women of color can overcome race and gender to reach partnership and networking skills that will impress potential clients.
Friday’s Diversity Expo is an excellent opportunity for DRI member lawyers and their firms to interview with corporations and insurance companies that value diversity. These companies have made a serious commitment to diversify their outside counsel list. The application deadline has been extended to May 7.
