DRI Cares

Misconceptions about attorneys abound: we are money grubbers, we revel in the argument, we lack compassion as we strive always for victory for our clients, we are workaholics (well maybe that one is true for a lot of us), or we are heartless. Unfortunately, most people do not see what lawyers do behind the scenes, often quietly, to make the profession and society better for our colleagues, families and neighbors. Lawyers really do care about things beyond their clients and their firms’ bottom lines.
DRI Cares. And because DRI Cares we are including on our website a new section that is designed to do two important things. First, it is a collecting point for links and information to help attorneys beyond DRI’s traditional resources. Here you will find links to lawyers’ assistance programs in every state – programs designed to help lawyers in crisis or to help lawyers whose colleagues are in crisis. You will also find links to resources to help in the never ending crusade to achieve a better life-work-family balance, because if a lawyer is not happy in her/his personal life, odds are they will not be as effective an attorney in their professional lives. If you have links or resources to suggest, please do so because this is about helping one another. The second part of the DRI Cares section of the website is to recognize our members that do give back. Whether it is through annual food drives at the holidays or buying a refrigerator for a food bank in crisis or building a Habitat for Humanity house, we want to hear from you. Contact DRI via email at dricares@dri.org. Our service projects at various seminars are popular and successful, but we are, as a group and individuals, doing more – let’s tell the world!
I look forward to watching this part of the website grow and learning more about what all of us are doing for one another and our communities. DRI is about relationships – let’s build relationships of caring with our colleagues and communities. The profession, our firms, our families and DRI will be better for it.
